PROJECT
FINISHED
' With the era of the Depression Disease Nursing Practice Learning in EU Size' the project will include 48 participant students (6 specialised companion teachers) from our institution and the nursing department of partner Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools (VTAHS). Mental illnesses are not selective; they may develop in every individual, culture and every stage of life. ‘Health will not be complete without the mental health.’ Unless investments are made in the field of mental health, other investments will have no meaning in a society that consists of individuals with mental problems. According to WHO, rather than cancer or a recently developed virus, “depression” will be the most common illness of the 2020s, which will bring along the most serious reason of total disability! Being far from a simple emotional and situational burnout, depression is a serious illness that differentiates the brain chemistry, decreases the amount of some neurochemical substances in brain, may cause psychological, mental and physical problems and should necessarily be treated. According to the data of 2010 of Ministry of Health, 2 million 100 thousand people are depressed in Turkey. It is one of the most common illnesses in Turkey. The rate of patients being diagnosed with depression increases approximately 20% every year. Presumably 500 million people in the world have depression. One out of five individuals fall into depression at least once in their lifetime. According to a study that has recently been published in the journal PLOS Medicine, depression has become the secondary health problem causing disability following the back pain around the world. According to the findings obtained as a result of the study, it is required to immediately handle depressive disorders as a public health priority and conduct efficient studies to reduce the burden of the present illness. More than 50% of depression patients experience repeated depression attacks in their lifetime. Depressive disorders affect the entire body including the physiology, biochemistry, mood, thoughts, and behaviours of individual. The increase in the rate of mental illnesses in Turkey gradually increases the importance of psychiatric nursing practices, which are indispensable component in this field. In this context, the most target is to prevent the disabilities caused by depressive disorders and workforce losses and to reduce the death rates. In this context, our participants need to see the EU-level nursing practices in depression, as well as the interventions, approach/care practices in different languages/religions/races and cultures on site, and to transfer the innovative/accurate/efficient practices in this field. It is very important to fill a significant deficiency by learning innovative and efficient practices and approaches aimed at approach towards patients in depression and nursing practices and to realize the project in order to contribute to enable the services provided for depression patients in Turkey to reach the EU standards. Therefore, it is aimed to;enable our project participant group to gain EU-level knowledge and experience regarding the role of nurses in depressive illnesses, as well as the observation, application, and evaluation of interventions/approaches and to train and employ qualified and well-equipped staff by including the information and qualification of this common illness in the vocational training. At the end of the project training, a sample model product, which will be used by students receiving vocational training and those working in the field in Turkey, will be prepared. The brochures, CD/DVDs, presentations, modules, meetings, and conferences that will be formed in accordance with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to be acquired from our project will extend our project. The expected results of the project are as follows:The inclusion of the acquired field-specific knowledge/experience and the product being formed in the curriculum of medical vocational education will increase the quality of vocational education, The execution of project outputs in the health sector and their extension across the country will provide the approach techniques for depression patients in the EU standards and the application of nursing care interventions will decrease the complications and increase the life quality of patients. The placement calendar of the project will be in Italy, Spain and the Czech Republic between 08-28 January 2017 in a way to include 21 days, 3 flows and equal number of participants in every flow. The total duration of the project is 12 months and the start date is 01 September 2016 and the ending date is 31 august 2017.
