Migration is one of the top priorities on the political, social and economic agenda of the EU. Significant importance is attached to the problems of migration within the European area and to the inter-dependence and economic and social complementarity between Europe and other countries to the east and south of the EU. For many years, migratory flows have been a key element in the European area for economic and social complementarity and have also been a central element of opposition and tension in international relations. Moreover, the closeness of the European territory to Asia and to the Mediterranean basin, which links it with the African continent, makes Europe the natural location for trans-national mobility. The composition of the partnership indicates the varying degrees and different origins of the phenomenon. It includes northern countries where the situation is mature and Italy and Spain, which have changed from being countries of emigrants to becoming a destination for immigrants. Overall objective / Objectif général The general objective is to develop opportunities for integration “amongst Europeans” and among “Europeans and non-Community nationals” through the creation of networks for communication for migrant communities - both “long networks”, linking them with their countries of origin, and “short networks” within the new countries of residence, especially in urban contexts. INTERREG IIIC encourages an approach to this topic based on the experience of other partners and experimentation with new approaches. Expected results / Résultats attendus Creation of new tools for regional and national policies; development of new approaches for land planning and social, cultural and economic integration; development of debate and exchange of experiences amongst the European regions and countries in the field of immigration policies; inter-regional cooperation for grassroots partners in each region; strengthening of regional policies for migrants in partner regions; creation of the basis for sustainable north-south, eastwest cooperation; expansion of practices based on transnational networks for integration.
