Building alternatives: a regional Paticipative Youth Action Plan for social development
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The "Building alternatives: a regional Participation Youth Action Plan for social development" project will establish a regional level collaboration, based on the " Red Participa" with various entities that carry out projects of citizen participation and dialogue between young people and policy makers in their respective regions, to establish synergies that allow the exchange of successful experiences and promoting active European citizenship among young people. This project arises because it has found that many governments, organizations of civil society and companies carry out actions, campaigns, activities or projects to promote active youth participation, but they do so in a very uncoordinated way and partial, in addition some of these entities fail to find the right channels to reach youth, nor made available useful tools tailored to their needs. This project is based on a pilot experience which has promoted Horta Sud Foundation, coordinator of this project in the region of l'Horta (Valencia Province) which has created the " Red Participa" in which more than 7 municipalities of the region and many social organizations want to work in coordination to share information, work methods, programs and knowledge to exploit synergies, multiply the results and optimize resources aimed at encouraging citizen participation in the region. Within this network it has born this participatory project aimed at youth to permit further social development in the regions involved. Therefore, it is necessary to create spaces for dialogue and collaboration between youth, government and technical experts for coordinating all efforts to provide channels and useful tools to increase substantially the number of young people who actively participate in society. For this, two international meetings of three days each will be held, for debate between young people and politicians in Manises and Torrent, Valencia (Spain), allowing first conduct a joint analysis of the real needs of young people from the regions involved, to subsequently agree a regional Participation Youth Action Plan for social development. The objective of this plan will be clearly define the competences and areas of action of the three main sectors: public administration, non-profit organizations and businesses, and to analyse and agree on what will be the contribution (of resources, services, spaces, etc.) of each. Reaching commitments to concrete action for each sector, allowing a significant increase in the active participation of young people. In this project more than 25 partner organizations will be involved, including municipalities (Alaquàs, Catarroja, Manises, Mislata, Picassent, Quart de Poblet, etc.), companies, non-profit organizations, youth associations, etc. for a total of 130 and 80 participants for each meeting, where most of them will be young. To ensure a better learning and training of the young participants and non-formal participatory methodology will be used, in which young people are the protagonists, they are who take the initiative in the debate and proposals, and also enabled spaces for the young people discuss between them and develop proposals prior to the meetings. At the end of the two main activities of the project we will have a regional Participation Youth Action Plan for social development, this will be the main result of the project, and learning outcomes of youth, political and technical. It is hoped that this project and especially the "Paticipative Youth Action Plan" has a great impact being a European reference to coordinate efforts of organizations and institutions from different sectors to carry out an action plan on promoting youth participation together, and not only have a positive impact on increasing the involvement of young people in the project regions but also will be disseminated and replicated in many other EU regions. This will be especially important for the involvement of multi-level politicians, including GVA, as well as some activities of ambitious and effective dissemination. With all this, the long-term aim is to increase the capacity of young people to influence the policies that affect them directly, enhancing their awareness of European active citizens and assertive and ultimately improve the quality of life of young people in the regions concerned, focusing on the main obstacles and needs, to have a real positive impact on their education, inclusion, employability and ability to emancipation.
