Bringing Europe closer. An exchange for increasing..
Bringing Europe closer. An exchange for increasing European citizenship among youth workers
Start date: Jan 1, 2016,
End date: Feb 28, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
The self-description of European citizens as increasingly away of the European Union has been a constant in the recent years with special emphasis in Spain and Greece, two of the most affected countries by the economic crisis. This has been even more notorious in the group of youth people, a portion of the society very touched by high levels of unemployment. This project aims, through the execution of a virtual-in person strategy, to contribute to the increasing of knowledges related to European institutions among Spaniard and Greek youth workers specialized in civic training. The project has three stages: two virtual (initial and final) and one in person (youth workers exchange). A total of 16 youth workers (eight per country), working with youth people coming from not affluent backgrounds, will participate in the activities to execute. Across the project, the participants will have the chance of knowing closer the reality and procedures of 5 European agencies (European Commission, European Parliament, European Union Justice Tribunal, European Ombudsman and European Central Bank). To that purpose, different formal, informal and non-formal learning techniques will be applied such as simulations (role-plays), interviews to European public officials and video recording. The results expected for the project are: (1) a free and downloadable “intervention handbook” for helping youth workers to acquire political knowledge about EU agencies and European citizenship; (2) a web site with resources for their use in other projects with similar features; (3) a free App with resources of the type expressed for the web site and (4) the creation and institutionalizing of a virtual space, among youth workers, for the exchange of good practices about civic training with focus in EU. The project will be evaluated on base of a Before-After logic. From the point of view of impact, it is expected to obtain between 75 and 100 news about the Project in the mass media across the project. They are going to be recorded by the alert system of Google News. At the same time, 12 project presentation meetings will be organized to share its results with stakeholders potentially interested in its replication (youth organizations, European authorities, Education authorities, teacher trade unions, NGOs, research groups, etc.). The most important benefit of the project, in the long run, is the development of a proven model of intervention for the generation of political knowledge about EU agencies among youth workers specialized in civic training.
