Bridging the Gap : the road to recognising long term youth exchanges
Start date: Aug 1, 2009,

As boarders within Europe turn from barriers to opportunities and as intercultural competences become a necessity both within communities and at the workplace, the youth of. Europe are also becoming more mobile. They are not just going on holidays, they are increasingly becoming participants of long term youth exchanges. And yet, these youth are faced with the challenge of the inevitable return to their home country where they must attempt to valorise and search for the recognition of their time spent abroad. Volunteer youth workers from 12 countries who support and organise these exchanges will thus come together from secondary school, university and volunteering long term youth exchange organisations (YFU, AFS, ESN, SCI, ICYE) for 6 days in Mollina, Spain to a seminar to 'Bridge the Gap.' On the road to recognising long term youth exchanges, they will deepen their understanding of long term youth mobility schemes and their recognition, exchange best practices and recognition tools, examine the role policy and civil society play, be empowered to be active citizens, and create synergies between both themselves and their organisations. This seminar will set the groundwork for follow-up co-operation leading to a comprehensive overview of recognition of long term youth exchanges.
