Bridges: Networking for and with Children and Youth at Risk
Start date: Jan 4, 2016, End date: Jan 3, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

While young people, who live with their parents, often stay at home with their families until their mid-twenties or even longer, young people living in residential or foster care are usually asked or even forced to start their independent life much earlier without the necessary support and generally less possibilities of formal education. In European countries and all over the world there is a lack of specific help for care leavers in their transition to an independent adulthood. Care leavers therefore are a vulnerable group with significant disadvantages regarding access to education and to employment and psycho-social difficulties. This project opens new learning possibilities to one care leaver and the possibility to actively engage in providing youth and young adults at risk a platform and canals to have their voices heard. The young adult will improve his competences and acquire new skills assisting the FICE Austria team in daily tasks within the communication and event management area and at the same time enriches the daily work with the point of view of a young adult, who has been living in care. Starting up a new project – an international virtual networking platform for and with children and youth at risk with special focus on those who are or have been living in residential or foster care - he will actively contribute to enhance their participation, to build a network, where they can exchange and learn from each other, and to make their voices heard by those who work in the field of youth and beyond.
