Encouraging the general public to participate in the protection of the environment through actively collecting the used cooking oil in catering and tourist establishments and transforming it into fuel; raising the level of public awareness on the sustainable use of natural and ecologically acceptable resources based on the possibilities of exploiting the energy value of used cooking oil and the advantages of bio-fuel, or replacing fossil fuel with bio-fuel. Achievements: 1710 l of used cooking oil was collected in catering and tourist establishments. For the purpose of promoting renewable energy sources and energy efficiency very large number of leaflets and brochures has been distributed along with 8 jumbo posters set up in Primorje-Gorski kotar County. The project was promoted through marketing announcements and TV and radio shows on regional and national level as well through scientific papers and websites, at the Northern Adriatic Fair in Rijeka, the Economy Fair in Vojni and the international conference on biodiesel held in Karlovac. An analysis have been compiled based on a survey involving 102 citizens from the County of Primorje-Gorski kotar on how they discard of used cooking oil in their households, on their knowledge on the advantages of collecting used cooking oil, and on the production of bio-diesel, another analysis was based on a survey involving 305 people from the County of Karlovac on their awareness and readiness to collect used cooking oil for producing biodiesel, 10 companies interviewed on their usage of bio-diesel as an alternative fuel source among transport and other companies from the County of Karlovac andan analysis made.
