PROJECT
FINISHED
The project will take place in the northern region of Albania in the region of Shkoder. The place has been for several years the destination of migration flows both from neighboring countries (Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia) both from rural and mountainous surrounding leading to an overcrowding of areas outskirts of the city. This trend is not sustainable by the fragile economy of the city, which is unable to ensure job opportunities for all, and all that determines extremely hard living conditions and insecurity for many families, who often can not even access to basic services. This fragile situation is reflected on the economic and social aspects of daily life of people. Lack of access to basic services, poverty, child labor, school dropouts are just some of the problems that affect the population (particularly women and children) in a mentally closed society and sexist.
The overall objective of the project is to create the conditions for a society in which education and basic rights are respected and guaranteed, in order to create a more equitable society and civilly active. The project aims to raise awareness in the field of human rights, through the support to vulnerable people (particularly children), data collection, research and analysis of the situation in Albania in terms of social, political and cultural aspects.
The selected volunteers will carry out their service mainly at a family home and a therapeutic community that welcomes mainly children, supporting activities for young people accommodated in the family home, conducting educational and recreational activities for the children of the area who are in poverty, and supporting operators in the visits to disadvantaged families in the area.
Volunteers will receive a pre-departure training in Italy concerning Albanian context (politic, history, social and human rights, peace, education) according to the European principles.
Will have an opportunity for reflection on their experience through writing articles that will be published on the website of the organizations, in order to raise awareness of other young people on the situation in Albania, strengthening awareness in their local communities and at European level.
The presence of young volunteers will also be a stimulus for reflection in the local community, with respect to cultural diversity, but also compared to the values, principles and opportunities guaranteed by the European Union, even more important element today after the country's official access between countries candidates to become EU member states.
