The project “Behind Borders: A New European Dialog” has emerged from a desire of Danish and Moldova partners to provide young people with an opportunity to go behind the borders of their existing experience, to provide them with a chance to acquire new knowledge and skills in creative and non-formal way, to show them that their action can make a difference and encourage them to start a new European dialog across different sociocultural contexts and age groups. That is why we want to send 2 young persons to Moldova and guide her through the 12 months volunteer service in an organization dealing people with disabilities where they will be in daily contact with people from different social backgrounds who are struggling with different types of difficulties. During their mission plenty of various learning opportunities will be offered to them. This 12 months long journey will change the way the volunteers are thinking of themselves and the others and will help to develop her autonomy. They will acquire and/or improve their organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and will get some knowledge of Romanian, Russian and English language. She will learn to cope with unknown situations and will gain confidence. The volunteer will also acquire an ability to work in international environment, her creativity will be developed and her awareness of EU citizenship and understanding of importance of cooperation and partnership will be also increased. Thanks to large scale dissemination activities the target group, young people in Denmark and Moldova, will became aware of the fact that their voice is powerful and that their action can make a difference. They will be more aware of opportunities that they can use of, will be encouraged to make the same journeys behind borders like the volunteers in this project. Activities of the project will help to develop sense of solidarity, respect and tolerance among young people. They will be well aware of the fact that these values are to be applied across all age groups and are not limited by any political, cultural or social border. And in this sense the project will foster social cohesion in the European Union and East European country and will contribute to fostering an exchange of experience between young people from the EU and East European countries.
