BECOMING INTERNATIONAL

The idea for the project came from the identified need for our school; to complement the measures necessaries to improve the employability of students in the labor market of the island, where more often international professional profiles are required. Moreover, in this way, we could increase the chances of our students to compete in the European labor market what is really important in these times of crisis. Another need for our organization, derived from the first, is to support and strengthen the professional development of teachers, in order to innovate and improve the quality of teaching. The way to achieve our goals, according to the needs expressed, is undertaking activities that promote in one hand, the mobility of students to a European country in which they perform at least one month of intership. On the other hand, our teachers, as an essential part in this process, can make mobility to improve their skills, in the form of job shadowing, in order to optimize the quality of teaching. The improvement in the linguistic and cultural competence that is derived from the mobility itself, both for students and for teachers, constitute an important added value to strive for optimal positioning within the local labor market, increasing the chances of integration into the European level and laying the groundwork for the establishment of stable networks of cooperation between organizations and institutions. Eleven students and two teachers participated in the mobilities within the project. Students who have enjoyed scholarships Erasmus + 2014 are within the age group of 18 and 55 years and have completed the second year of training medium-grade cycles following: - Technician in Assistance to People in Need of Care - Technician in Pharmacy and Parapharmacy - Technician in Hairdressing and Hair Cosmetics - Expert in auxiliary nursery care They present a very mixed profile in terms of socioeconomic and cultural level, with pupils from both high school and programs of initial vocational training, as well as different countries. Prior to the implementation of mobility, students took part in the training placements of our island to gain experience and to compare the way of working between the two countries. In almost all cases, the mobilities have been suitable for the participants profile as they were planned with activities which were agreed before the mobility. All the planned activities were finally made. Only in the case of a nursery care student, all the activities were not carried out at the host company. This has been taken into account for future mobilities and we have decided not sending nursery care students to the companies we have in Portsmouth. Regarding the teachers, the goal of our center was performing a job shadowing in Finland companies where our students of nursery care, geriatric and social integration have been doing mobilities since 2009. Teachers of health professional family were chosen for the mobilities. At the same time, another job shadowing was programmed at an Englsih high college where "Technician in Hairdressing and Hair Cosmetics" is taught. We've been sending students for years. This job shadowing was not accomplished. Another goal of our centre was to make a job shadowing in a sport company in England, in order to incorporate new sports to the curriculum. A teacher of physical education was chosen to carry out the job shadowing in England. With the job shadowing in Finland the teacher was able to see the Finnish Health System, the way of working and different technologies. Moreover he exchanged experiences and professionals skills with the tutors of our students. Finally they met two new partners for our sports and dietetics studies, where we hope to send our students next year.
