Project derives from the principles that are important for all parties involved - the interconnection between development of lifelong-learning competences and development of local community.
The aim of the project is to improve competences of young people and promote their participation in democratic life in Europe by strengthening Ikšķile local community, in particular regarding inter-cultural understanding by bringing intercultural learning into routine of the school and developing understanding of volunteer work as a useful instrument to promote employability, demonstrating volunteering as an example to kids, parents and local community.
Project involves 2 participants (from Germany and Austria) who are interested in learning and experiencing methods of alternative education, practice them in work with children and adults improving their intercultural communication skills. Volunteers will be teacher's assistants who will help in everyday work, assist in teaching foreign languages and help in extracurricular activities at school, facilitate understanding of their culture and traditions. The lengths of the project is 14 months, the lengths of activity is 11 months.
The outcome of the project is a methodological material for primary school teachers on introducing intercultural learning in primary schools.
It is expected that project will improve inter-cultural competences of the participants, they will gain better understanding of their own culture and develop creativity, thus contributing to the life-long-learning process of children, teachers, parents and local community and improving their competences.
On a local level the project will bring intercultural education and European awareness on local level (in school and local community). Project will highlight European dimension in the learning process in Ikšķile Free school, students will have a possibility to communicate regularly with people who speak other European languages, they will learn foreign languages together.
Communication experience will help them to fight against biases, racism and other attitudes that lead to social exclusion and will develop the sense of respect and better understanding of diversity. On regional and national level the project will strengthen the understanding of contribution of volunteer work in the system of education and development of life-long-learning competences. People involved in the project will have a better understanding of European citizenship and they will be aware of European diversity, they will encounter variety of political and social environments in Europe. On European and international level the project will facilitate the cooperation among organizations valuing similar principles, who recognize the importance of life-long learning in developing local community.
