Ball Rolls in the Same Way For All
Start date: Jan 1, 2017, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The BRISWA approach will try to address the issue of racism in football in a more comprehensive way. The proposed approach is based on three pillars:1) Re-examining racism and defining it more conciselySince racism in football is not independent from racism in society, it is essential to study the literature as well as past and present cases with the purpose of identifying those common indicators that cause racism to be created and expressed. In parallel, to increase insights, a study will be conducted that will search for relevant data on football games themselves. The study will be expanded to football players and referees and finally investigate the extent to which racial discriminations of employment in society have penetrated the practices of football clubs and organizations. Finally it is important to comprehend and understand the opinions and experiences of fans or enthusiasts of football. In that spirit, anonymous surveys will be designed, developed and distributed to football fans with the purpose of analysing current trends in racism. 2) Developing and testing policies to fight racism in footballStudying the past, the current trends and best practices from other countries does not guarantee the success of policies. Especially for a complex issue like racism. Hence, we deem important to create a platform that will allow for policy experimentation. For this purpose, the BRISWA project will use simulation models. Racism is inherently complex thus any decision regarding the fight against it must be dynamic and constantly evaluated, since the environment constantly changes, either as a result of the decision or independently. The developed simulation models can be used to identify scenario exemplars on how racism is born, how it thrives and how it can be fought.3) Comprehensive anti-racism campaignThe final pillar of BRISWA will be an anti-racism campaign
