Our project aims at the students in pre-school, primary school, secondary school, the young who stayed out of formal education and the society which put a distance between books and itself regarding the proverb ‘ Strike while the iron is hot’. Reading should be a part of daily lives of children like wheather, water and food in order to complete the their cultural improvements and to catch up with the information era.
According to the researches and the report of UNESCO Worldwide Reading Habits, reading habit has been confirmed as 21% in Europe, %12 in USA, %00.1 in Turkey.Turkey is the 86th in the ranking of countries. In Turkey, book is the 235th in the rank of need. Turkish people spare six hours to reading. This data shows that our society does not read and stays away from book.
We aim at introducing the young starting from preschool education, primary school, secondary school, high school and the ones stay out of formal education with books and get them adopt reading habit. We aim at having the young and comprising a society who read books, have people read books, turning the young and societ into individuals who carry books. Besides, as seen in European countries, our purpose is having a society who reads in train, bus, on board and in every atmosphere in which they find an opportunity to read, thanks to which having individuals who catch up real agenda by getting rid of imaginary agenda and oral culture, and making individuals sensible, considerate, questioning, able to analyse araoud themselves and their environment, self confident.
It is aimed to prevent the fact that technological tools have almost captured people because of unneccessary usage and that a society which is lack of communication and anti-social is formed.
For our country’s social and cultural future, in order to proceed in various scientific field and to save its independence, we need generations reading, understanding and producing solutions to the problems, whose way passes through reading.
There are 5 library, 3 out of which is state and 2 out of which is children in our city. We have 2 (form an and woman) reading clubs bound to our association . In our city there are also several reading saloons open to public and boud to NGOs.. In order to use them actively, the young and society should be guided.
With this project, it is aimed to observe which applications, methods or techniques used to give reading habits to the person from pre-school period or through their education period. Our participants will direct people and society to read by the help of observations, researches or with the training they will get during this project. Furthermore, they will help people to love books. Participants will educate young people about managing their free time activities. Again, with this project, we aim to give education to parents and try to make them read more and be models for their children. Another aim is to teach how to read practically.
By the way, with the reading habits the young people and the society gained, they will increase their capacity of understanding or expressing themselves. Society will increase their standards academically, culturally and economically. When the society's cultural level is increased, it brings respect and love in personal relations and social relations with the understanding of empathy and this will increase the individuals' happiness and also society's happiness. The inevitable result is a more livable environment.
Our project includes staff or members of Çorum Gül Gençlik Eğitim Kültür ve Dayanışma Derneği, Çorum Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi, Çorum İl Turizm ve Kültür Müdürlüğü, Çorum Eğitim Kültür ve Araştırma Derneği and Eğitimciler Birliği Sendikası Çorum Şubesi who are responsible for educational activities.
In the practice phase of our Project, whose topic is “Examination of the duration of having people adopt reading activity in European countries”, an educational group of 22 expert in their fields will attend 2- week-training in our partner Spain, which has Works on the Project topic and includes secondary school, high school, vocational high school and vocational school of higher education. Our partner gives education in two languages, Spanish and English, available to the European Union projects with its physical situation, equipment and improved staff and carries out projects or is partners in the projects already carried out.
