Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Home-care health services denote the presentation of care and nursing services that aim to keep individuals healthy, to cure and restore their health within the home environment of the individual in an organized way and with a professional approach. According to a United Nations report, the average ratio of population with an age of 60 and over is going to be 21 percent by 2050 given that the world population demonstrates a steady tendency of aging. In the context of this changing structure of population, home-care health services in Turkey commenced as a part of the project of transformation in healthcare due to a variety of reasons including the increase of elderly population, the increase in chronic diseases, the decrease in health care expenditures and financial discipline, the impact of the developing world and the changes in the approaches towards healthcare. In the province of Batman, while the home care services are rarely implemented, the main health care and treatment services are provided and concentrated in the hospitals. According to the January monthly statistics, the number of people who demanded home care service is 250, while those who applied to a hospital reached 2000. Therefore, the demands for the hospitals are much higher and this, in turn, decreases the quality of healthcare services in the hospitals. In this context, a consortium coordinated by Batman Association of Public Hospitals (APH) has decided a project in order to develop the occupational capacity of students; to enable their acquisition know-how, skills and experience at the level of European standards; to ensure them to examine the best practices on-site; to give them the opportunity to have an inter-cultural learning experience and to expand their career opportunities after this learning and training experience. In the context of this project, the coordinator institution Batman APH, which holds 6 state hospitals, established a consortium partnership with Batman Ibni-Sina, Batman Gazi and Özel Batman Basut Anatolian Vocational and technical Schools. The project is composed of occupational mobility activities to Czech Republic, Germany and Austria with the participation of a total of 82 participants including 60 11th and 12th level nursing students, 6 attendants, 12 occupational teachers and 4 internship coordinators. These students will be conducting internship studies on home-care health services in these three countries. Teachers and other personnel will be trained about home-care health services and experience best practices. This project aims at acquiring of know-how, skills and experience in EU standards; developing new perspectives on the subject, comparison of the experience gained in this project with the practices implemented in Turkey, learning innovative home-care health practices and their transfer. At the same time, with the certificates that the participants will obtain with this program, their employment opportunities in the area of home-care health services will be increased.
