ATLAS - Assessment and Training of LAbour market related Social Skills
The ATLAS project has identified a missing link in the process of employment integration for those with an intellectual disability or minimal levels of education: employers have been found to terminate contracts with these individuals due to a mismatch between the requirements of the job and the social skills of those in this disadvantaged group. The project seeks to bridge this gap through the development, piloting and introduction of a new social skills assessment instrument to suit both employer and employee needs and will further track and publicise examples of best practice in social skills training. The project will establish a dedicated website and will assemble inventories of existing social skills assessment instruments and training programmes for the target group. A new assessment instrument will then be drafted, piloted and debated with stakeholders through the hosting of a feedback workshop. The instrument will again be tested a year later, and eventually finalised and introduced following a second feedback seminar. The testing process will be carefully constructed to assess the impact of a range of variables to include: type of employment (open market, sheltered/supported, day centre), sector, age and gender. The project website will exist in four languages and the end products (inventories, assessment tool, final report) in five languages (DE, EN, NL, EL & RO). The newly developed social skills assessment tool will be designed to be integrated into methodologies relating to the three main target groups: vocational training services, public and private sector employers and public authorities/policy makers, for which certain organisations will be invited to participate directly in the project. Project partners will maintain a wider mailing list at national and European level to keep stakeholders informed via web-mailings, an e-newsletter, distribution of the final report and eventually through invitation to an end project conference on a European level.
