Our institution has been successfully applying for projects of Tempus Public Foundation since 2002. Over the past period, with the contribution of our mentally handicapped students who are participating in special vocational training, we could accomplish successful internships abroad on 20 occasions. In 2010 we were awarded a certification; within this we are planning our current project. We would like to organise a three-week long training titled “Spade, hoes... Bio-land!” to a trademarked organic garden (Knockvicar Organic Garden, Boyle) in Ireland for 7 mentally handicapped young people who are studying to be garden workers. In August 2013, 8 special education teachers took part in a 10-day field trip at our partner, Knockvicar Organic Garden. The positive experiences, approach shaping and material of knowledge of the field trip motivated us to also bring our students to Ireland. Our aim for them is to gain new, modern theoretical and practical experiences in the organic garden which will later make it easier for them to meet the requirements of their examinations, and then enter employment. Prior departure our students will take part in a two-day preparation camp. During this they are going to visit an eco-village in Agostyán (Természetes Életmód Alapítvány – Natural Lifestyle Foundation). The aim of daylong, spent outside program is to prepare them pedagogically which forms ecological approach. The implementation of the program has been planned that during 15 working days we provide 20 hours theoretical and 60 hours practical training for the students in the organic garden. The professional background will be provided by the qualified agricultural engineer head teacher of the garden. Within the framework of the training, the students are introduced to the principles of the organic farming, the cultivation, care and gardening activities according to the local climate and weather conditions. The host institution is also engaged in selling the grown organic goods. This also could provide a rich experience to broaden their entrepreneurial knowledge. The majority of students who are learning to be garden workers live in smaller, agricultural villages, where many of them work at their family farms with their parents. The knowledge acquired in Ireland could contribute greatly to, after they obtain their professions, join the family business that requires less mechanization and more labour demand. Regarding the injuries, mental conditions, special educational needs (curriculum acquisition according their own pace of development) of the students 3 special educational teacher would accompany them in order to meet the goals of our program. Each of the teachers is proficient, versed in carrying out Leonardo projects. We are cooperating with the host organization since the start (writing the application for the competition, compilation of work program). A project management is being planned, indicating the deadlines and people in charge, which also contains the agenda (insurance, accommodation, travel, living costs, implementation, tracking, recognition of work program). As a result of the program it is expected that the competencies of beneficiaries develop, their knowledge broaden with modern, usable skills. We also expect to strengthen cooperation between partners, to broaden experience of mobility of the institutions.
