Arts and Culture in Prison. Cultural and Artistic ..
Arts and Culture in Prison. Cultural and Artistic Production in European Prisons.
Start date: May 1, 2010,
The present project proposal aims at getting to know and enhancing the cultural and artistic productions promoted and implemented within European prisons. The gradual development of cultural activities implemented in favour of detained people, enjoying alternative measures or ex inmates, has opened up an extremely interesting space, in terms of outcomes that such activities finally have on the protection of the artistic aptitudes of those who experience detention and their processes of social reintegration; as well as in terms of enrichment generated by the combination of cultural and artistic experiences inside and outside a prison. The project consists of a number of actions aiming at a better knowledge of the cultural initiatives and professionals who work in European prisons; the creation of permanent international relationships for exchange and collaboration with the different professionals; the circulation of cultural and artistic products implemented and, at the same time, the enhancement of these initiatives in a renewed relationship between inside and outside the prisons; the development of greater attention by the European society to the issue of resources, spaces and timing of cultural and artistic activities in the prisons. The project will concretely develop a number of actions that support a wider knowledge and expertise on the cultural initiatives in prisons; encourage their circulation through the organisation of specific events; consolidate a permanent network of collaboration between the different European cultural professionals. These objectives will be achieved by carrying out a background investigation on the cultural and artistic activities in the prisons of the partner countries; the organisation of seminars aiming at an exchange between cultural professionals; the organisation of cultural events in the sectors involved in the project: theatre, literature, art and arts and crafts, cinema, music and dance; the creation of a network.
