ARTichokEVS
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Feb 29, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project ARTichokEVS is a direct impact of our first long-term EVS project in Syncro – Synergy 4 Youth Work in Croatia. It was created as a personal project of the volunteer Katerina Martinkova, who inspired by the Youth for Yout(th) festival held in Brno, decided to create something similar in Zagreb. The main idea of this festival is that art should be available for everyone (regardless of age, social and economic background) and also that the young people who are doing art should have a chance to show it at the early stages. The festival had the aim to support young poeple to join an organisation of an art festival, to show their own art, and it also aims to give an opportunity to local people to join art and cultural events that are accessible and open for everyone. Since the Artichoke festival was created as a result of an EVS project, we decided to add the ARTichokEVS to its second edition held in 2015. The project took place in the city of Zagreb, from the 1st September 2015 until 31st November 2015, and it gathered three volunteers from Romania, Italy and Bulgaria. The volunteers joined Syncro in the organisation of the second edition of the festival, their tasks were created in a way to ensure a quality festival and to ensure they learn about even management so they could later on work independently in the same field. They were preparing promo materials, they organised the main and the accompanying program of the festival, art workshops, PR activities and cooperating closely with local volunteers, young artists and performers. As a result the program of the festival consisted of an exhibition (photography, painting, graphics), music concert, fractals drawing workshop, salsa and bachata workshop, pole-dancing workshop, a literary evening and a workshop of emotional expressiveness. Attending all of these activities was free of charge for the local community and it was visited by more that 700 people. It gave a space to perform or exhibit to 70 young local artists, it involved 16 local volunteers. One of the results was creating an upgraded version of a guidebook on how to create a youth art festival from scratch. The project had an important impact in a way that it showed to all the young artists, local and international volunteers how to create a festival from scratch, how to create space to show art and how to involve local community in attending and actively participating activities their city offers, and it created a space for promotion for the young artists who participated in the Festival.
