Given the a globalized moment we’re living, our school has decided to implement a multilingual spanish and valencian program (PPEv-PPEC). This implies the need to train our teachers. This training will focus on two main objectives: to strengthen the European dimension of our school (students, teachers and school) and the improvement of language proficiency (in English) for our students and teachers.
From this point the management team took several decisions :
- The use of CLIL methodology to carry out this program in several languages .
- The subjects will be taught in English in Secondary Education will be Physical Education , Visual Arts , Technology and ICT. Department involved is the Science Department.
- From that point, we decided both subjects and teachers who need to attend to this course . The requirement is 1 teacher with minimum B1 English level, he have to belong to the Science Department.
- Teachers should attend training courses structured CLIL .
After the courses a structured dissemination plan is established , so that all teachers know the methodology. This plan consists of seminars , training days at the school, creating a bank of resources, organization of group activities where new materials and the organization of job-shadowing sessions at the school.
The impact that we expect in the school for teachers and students is highly positive. Since we will improve the professional and linguistic skills of our teachers and consequently in their students, improving the motivation, the European view , multiculturalism , and overall quality of our teaching.
The CLIL methodology gives us a new way of teaching foreign language in our content. It is a methodology that is based on the contents and uses language as a tool to reach them . In a global society , where students can study or work anywhere , knowing languages is essential. Therefore, our goal is that our students are trained and prepared . CLIL is the tool .
