Angle it Right: New perspective on young people with fewer opportunities
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Angle it Right: New perspective on young people with fewer opportunities": with this project we want to address the lack of equal opportunities of young marginalised people and the need to change the perception of the mainstream society regarding them. What are the objectives?• To create a safe space for young people with fewer opportunities to reflect on their own life story;• To identify and recognize in their life story, the experience, resources and potential that these young people have, that make out of them more than "young people with fewer opportunities";• To inform young people with fewer opportunities about their rights;• To enable young people with fewer opportunities to stand for their rights (individually or collectively);•To create a space for young people with fewer opportunities to show themselves the way they want to be seen• To valorize youth initiatives at local level;• To equip young people with tools related innovative technologyThe long-term project "Angle it Right: New perspective on young people with fewer opportunities" consists of two main activities:1) “Localise it! Study visit on local youth initiatives” will take place in Rotterdam/Dordrecht, The Netherlands, from 16-19th March 2016 (arrivals on the 15th; departures on the 20th). The activity will gather 20 participants coming from 7 countries (Croatia, Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Spain) and representing 11 different youth organisations. The aim of this study visit is to valorize youth initiatives at local level. The programme will focus on:- Better understanding of the situation/image of young people in different EU countries (DAY 1)- Step back and review of participants' own life/image as a young person (DAY 2, 3, 4)- Meet young people involved in existing youth initiatives (DAY 2, 3)- Meet youth organisations working on social inclusion of young poeple with fewer opportunities (DAY 2, 4)- Meet local authorities who works on youth issues (DAY 3)- Individual action plan (DAY 4)- Future projects (DAY 4)2) The Training course “Voice it! Young people tell their story & claim for their rights” will take place in Groznjan, Croatia, from 13th-20th July. The activity will gather 20 participants coming from 7 countries (Croatia, Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Spain) and representing 11 different youth organisations. The aim of the TC is to empower young people with fewer opportunities to see themselves differently (by telling their own story to themselves, to others)The programme will focus on:- Young people's life story (transvesal topic: DAY 1-8)- Young people's understanding and access to Social Rights (DAY 3)- Story telling as a method for expression (DAY 4-8)- Story telling as a resource for self awareness (DAY 4-8)- Digital story telling as a tool to spread a message (DAY 6-8)- Public presentation of participants' artistic product (DAY 7)- Daily evaluation & reflexion groups (DAY 1-8)Profile of participants: Both activities are designed for young people who are pushed out of society for as many reasons we can think of and for the youth and social workers who empower them to find their place (back) in society. We really want to have these 2 target groups equally represented because they both can define problems and solutions on the road to inclusion. Morover, as we strongly believe in the value of peer education, we want to welcome in these 2 activities young people with fewer opportunities but also youth workers who are also facing exclusion situations.By raising awareness on young people's potential, life-stories and daily realities, we want to improve their self-esteem, recognize their own resources, develop key competencies they already have and give them the opportunity to show themselves the way they want to be seen. "Angle it Right: New perspective on young people with fewer opportunities" will promote youth participation by valorizyng youth initiatives on the access of social rights already implemented in local level. It will allow us to inspire young people and to equip them with concrete tools to act meaninfully in their own communities. We will promote participation in democratic life in Europe but also empower young people to express themselves not only with their own words but also in their own voices, fostering a sense of individuality and of “owning” their creations. We also plan, in a long-term, the mainstreaming of our results: we hope to convince decision-makers to adopt the experiences and results from our project to use them in local, regional, European policies (systems or practice).
