Languages are a fantastic way to learn our traditions, customs , tastes, identities and everything concerning life as they play a crucial role carrying the culture and as a part of the culture itself.Our project intends to introduce students and teachers of the two countries whose languages belong to the same language family and which have a common past and culture.The participants were given a basic language course. A web site was set up by the students and online language courses were available on the project web site . A communication network was established:the web site has been a meeting place as well as the other facilities such as MSN, Skype, e-mail where we can share our ideas, feelings, interests and of course learn Hungarian and Turkish. Students were asked to help their partners to teach pronunciation, stress and intonation. Participants searched the similar words in their languages, found the common words and studied etymology; compiled riddles, proverbs ,folk songs and tales,jokes, etc. It resulted in an attractive Hungarian-Turkish phrase book with some illustrations and with a dictionary and a play in the two languages. During class exchanges the play which contains cultural, historical elements of the performing country in the target language was performed. Our end products are a Hungarian-Turkish phrase book and a dictionary with illustrations, a play DVD, a web site and the students exchanges.We strongly believe that any form of prejudice and fear of other countries comes from the lack of communication. We want to revive and develop our common past and culture for a common future and integration to Europe and a bigger world thanks to mutual language learning in the frame of friendship.
