Amélioration des pratiques didactiques, linguistiques et citoyennes : une nécessité pour l'internationalisation
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Teaching languages has changed and is nowadays part of a high national and european perspective. Students at our school are taught in English in accordance with Primary National curriculum. However, children and their parents do not always realize the importance of learning English in primary school and the expected targets are sometimes difficult to achieve. Otherwise, the increase of the number of students and the setting-up of a special needs children class have resulted in an important increase of diversity in our school . The acceptance of difference and citizenship education are two of our priorities, listed in the last "school project" , which are therefore subject to regular activities in the classroom. For the third year, a class is running several international projects in order to give meaning to learning English through oral and written exchanges. It also causes an opening on the "other" with its differences and its similarities and participates in the construction of European citizenship. But these initiatives are still few, isolated, not always sufficiently structured although students are very motivated in such projects. We also notice that the language abilities of the children are sometimes a barrier to communication with other european children. Therefore, our school wishes two teachers could attend a course in England in INTERNATIONAL STUDY PROGRAMMES (which has over 30 years' experience in organising teacher development courses and has a well-founded reputation) to improve their own language skills, enhance their knowledge of Britain, British life and school life (including Special Education), participate in simulating workshop on Teaching ENglish to Young and special needs learners and exhange ideas and develop links with other European teachers. Following this training , three major actions will be carried out . - Dissemination of tools and knowledge to teachers of the area (courses), to teachers in the school to develop our practices as well as continuity in the learning of English in the different classes and improve the level of our students , - A stronger and more structured involvement in international projects , developing language skills but also citizenship and European identity - The implementation of joint projects with the secondary school teachers to develop the connection between primary and secondary schools and students' skills .
