The project AlpHouse strives to enhance the competitiveness of regional SMEs by providing them with the knowledge, skills and tools for top-quality renovations of Alpine old buildings. These shall meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and at the same time preserve the regional characteristics and the endogenous wisdom of Alpine architecture. To this end, AlpHouse will develop and implement a comprehensive program of qualification modules and a web based information platform, both based on an analysis of the currently available knowledge on energy technology and regional alpine architecture. The project addresses the target groups craft enterprises, architects/planners and policy makers. There is a special focus on practical instruction (e.g. on pilot construction sites), on tools for decision makers and on high visibility in the public. In result the rate and quality of renovations shall be raised, thereby increasing the attractiveness of the alpine space. Achievements: The central outputs of AlpHouse are its qualification modules, its homepage including the information platform, its fair stand and its publications (8 by now). These are based on groundwork of architectural, geographic and ecologic analyses in 8 pilot regions as well as on several surveys, exploring the needs of target groups, existing training and information offers and legal frameworks.By its outputs AlpHouse covers a wide range of topics: The qualification modules e.g. range from energetic renovation concepts of traditional buildings to tools for decision makers and technical details for craftsmen. The information platform is giving access to training material and to regional analysis data by interactive high resolution maps and detailed reports. 9 AlpHouse conferences have reached hundreds of people and received broad media coverage. The AlpHouse homepage (www.alphouse.eu) displays all events (see “News”), publications (see “Download”) and press appearances (see Media reports).
