Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Sep 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In Bulgaria young people practicing actively sports, in particular football, lose their motivation to do sport activities when reaching adolescence because, on one hand, they do not see any perspective to pursue a career as professional sportsmen and, on the other hand, modern technologies and meeting with friends come to the fore. In addition, those who make a decision to continue practicing sport rarely make a sport career abroad since they lack good sport training based on European best practices, as well as key competences such as communication in foreign languages, social skills, cultural awareness and learning to learn skills. In other words, with age children and adolescents turn from an active way of living into a sedentary one, which at later life may result in poor health, reduced social communication and demotivation to learn and develop. The project main aim is to exchange best practices between the two amateur sport clubs - FC ?Yantra 1919? and FC ?Swieqi United?, in particular between young people aged 13-17, in order to improve the motivation of Bulgarian youth to sustainably do sport and physical activities throughout their life. This will be implemented by means of the following specific objectives: ? To exchange knowledge and experience in football training (work-outs) and training methods and techniques for young people; ? To improve teamwork skills and cooperation with groups of different age, nationality, race, etc.; ? To increase the awareness of own culture, cultural diversity and intercultural differences in order to be ?tolerant? to and respect them; ? To build learning to learn skills by using the ?learning by doing? method; ? To improve communication in foreign languages, in particular in English, in real-life situations. The project will involve 48 youths, doing football as amateurs, from 3 age groups: 16 youths at the age of 13-14, 16 youths at the age of 15-16, and 16 youths at the age of 17-18. The main project activities are as follows: ? Arrival, accommodation, departure. ? Presenting the two towns and amateur sports clubs. ? Introduction game including a sport element. ? Joint work-outs with a task set in advance. ? 4 workshops with the following objectives: analysis of similarities and difference of the training (work-outs) process; analysis of similarities and difference of the behaviour of Maltese peers and their attitude to coaches; analysis of the behaviour of football players, referees and fans; analysis of the culture of the hosting country. ? Working out 4 maps in relation to the above workshops. ? Visiting cultural and historical places of interest. ? Watching a football match with a task set in advance. ? Joint demonstration football matches. The following methods will be used: preparing and delivering presentations; simulation game; workshops and discussions; visits, observation and analysis; teamwork with representatives of different nationalities; learning by doing (in particular learning through joint work-outs by using English language); demonstration of the acquired knowledge and skills. The following impact on the participants is expected: ? New knowledge and skills in relation to football training (work-outs), acquired through the ?learning by doing? method; ? Improved motivation to sustainably do sport activities; ? Better cooperation and teamwork with groups of people of different nationality, race, etc. ? Awareness of own culture and cultural diversity; ? Building respect and tolerance to cultural differences; ? Better adaptability/flexibility in multicultural environments; ? More positive attitude to the active way of living; ? More positive attitude to learning to learn and lifelong learning; ? Better communication in English in real-life situations. The potential long-term benefits can be viewed at local, regional, national, and European level: ? Promoting the town of Gabrovo, as a result of which new contacts within Europe are expected, as well as best practices in sport training at all levels; ? Boosting the image of the town at national level through the improved sport activity of FC ?Yantra 1919?; ? Promoting the sustainable doing of sport activities at an early age and attracting more youths in the amateur sport clubs within the region; ? A multiplying effect related to the awareness of intercultural differences and the building of respect and tolerance to cultural diversity at local level, as well as to positive attitude to the active way of living. ?
