Agro-European Tourism – how to reinvigorate rural areas
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Agro-European Tourism, how to reinvigorate rural areas” is a training course with a 9-day programme for the staff of our organization willing to learn about sustainable agritourism proposals and motivated to contribute to create new training opportunities for learners in this field. One of the main challenges of our area is to revitalize the rural areas, by fostering coherent growth plans that impact positively on employability and at the same time create social cohesion. We consider that capacity building is one of the most important instruments to successfully carry out this strategy, thus, it’s of major importance to design learning processes adapted to both practical needs of the labour market and the rural population. The course aims to widen our knowledge of sustainable rural development in order to improve the agro-touristic models we have in our region and the expected impact is to foster inter-organizational cooperation at local, regional and European level, and to raise awareness of the importance of rural areas as a source of wisdom of traditions, culture and environmental protection. The methodology of the course will be based on experiential and participative learning, combining training sessions of theoretical content with practical methods, learning from real cases of agritourism development in the region of Cantabria, and exchange of best practices that we can implement in our context and daily work. The peripheral objectives of the project are: Contribute to the revitalization of the rural world, with especial focus to employability & capacity building.Create connections between the rural and urban contexts, promoting at the same time a more sustainable way of development and growth. Raise the awareness of the intercultural dimension of Europe and our role as European citizens that build together a common space for social, economic and political development. The main objectives of the training are:-To improve the training competence of our staff in terms of , acquiring new delivery and tutoring methods and learning how to engage actively adult learners of our organization and our regional area.-To raise the motivation and commitment of our staff by giving them the chance to develop professionally, and strengthen their preparation to work with excluded groups of learners. -To gain knowledge about the specific topics of the training course: rural development, and sustainable ways for agri tourism and entrepreneurship.-To improve the linguistic competence of our staff members. -To broadening our capacity for offering learning designed specifically for adults in the rural contexts. - To increase our international dimension and our capacity to build partnerships at local, regional and European level. The collaboration consist of Citizens in Power from Cyprus and Permacultura Cantabria from Spain.
