Even though human rights and its protection is one of the cornerstones of the UN and of value to its members, in today’s fast-paced world, human rights violations are often overlooked. This is true especially in cases which can be considered small scale compared to others, such as domestic abuse, bullying or unequal wages. The Danish UNA have worked tirelessly for human rights on local and national level, and they have come face to face with such oversights. Based on their experiences, they have an understanding on the difficulties of providing protection for the rights of each individual, or even communities. Therefore, the members of the UNA came to the realization that yielding protection and equal rights for every human being is crucially difficult on a solely institutional level. In order to reach that state of equality, members of the society need to be ready to keep watch over each other and act against violation of any kind.Danish United Nations Association set the following aim:to strengthen society’s role in the fight for human rights and equality. The aim will be reached through the following objectives:1. To provide youth leaders with tools to promote active citizenship, participation and human rights among young people. 2. To provide youth leaders with a comprehensive reflection on human rights and tolerance.3. To provide youth leaders with an understanding of the institutions fighting for human rights.4. To create action plan(s) for communities in order to encourage their members to stand up for human rights.5. To exchange best practices on involving members of the society in the fight for human rights.A1 - SeminarFor the seminar in Denmark, the participants selected will be expected to have an extensive experience in the field of human rights. As the aim of the seminar will be to create an action plan for human rights education, the participants should be in a leading role within their organizations, and have the mandate to make decisions. Each partner will be expected to select and nominate two members of their organization to the UNA for final selection.A2 – Training courseFor the training course in Moldova, the participants will be youth leaders, preferably with experience within the field of human rights and human rights education. The youth leaders will have an interest in further extending their knowledge regarding the topic and gain new tools and best practices in promoting human rights and active participation among young people. The partners will select and nominate their participants from their organizations and networks. Once they are selected, the potential participants will fill out an application form with their personal and professional information which will be overviewed by the project manager appointed by UNA. The final selection and confirmation of the participants will be made by UNA, together with the team of trainers/facilitators.In the long term, as a result of the project, the European community will become stronger, as people realize their own role in the shaping of society and become more sensitive toward each other. Members of the communities will start to take responsibility for each other, pay more attention and take the right steps whenever they will see a need.Their enhanced awareness of the importance of human rights and its protection will bring about a decrease in human rights violations in general and a more tolerant population of Europe. The recent refugee crises has shown that it is of utmost importance to educate the citizens of the European Union on acceptance and equal rights.
