Active Seniors Learn, Educate, Communicate and Transmit approaches the presence of senior people in cultural organizations, projecting on them a double perspective: as users/beneficiaries of educational and cultural programmes and equally as learning resources for developing such programmes. The project originates in the various experiences of consortium partners in the fields of education, culture and social services and embraces these domains in a common approach. ASLECT builds on previous projects that addressed the capacity of cultural organizations to act as adult education providers and to take part in community life and/or offer support to seniors for learning, developing new skills and be active citizens (CONNECTION project for P1 and P2, VoCH, MAP for ID, MumAE for P3, SenEmpower, SLIC for P5), and takes these experiences further. Integration of seniors is more and more on public agenda, but there is a strong tendency to treat seniors as assisted persons and resource-consumers, while their potential as learning transmitters and facilitators is largely neglected. In ASLECT perspective, seniors are both resources and beneficiaries of learning, while cultural organizations need to strengthen their capacity to treat them as such, to support and promote their integration as active citizens in the local communities. ASLECT will identify a series of Good practices on Seniors Involvement in Education and Cultural life, will elaborate training materials aimed to help cultural professionals to work with seniors, developing educational activities with them and for them, will produce a set of Recommendations for Cultural Organizations Working with Seniors and through promotional activities at national and European level will raise-awareness on the potential contribution of seniors to the educational and cultural sphere. Training sessions at local level and the international seminars will facilitate contact with the target groups and exploitation of the outputs.
