ACT! Active Citizens' Training
Start date: May 1, 2016,
End date: Nov 30, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
IBO Italy will coordinate, in partnership with the Romanian Association Lumea lui Pinocchio, a mobility project which consists of a youth exchange and its Advance Planning Visit. The two activities of the project “ACT! Active Citizens' Training” will be carried out between June 23rd and July 28th, 2016: the APV will be held from 23/06 to 27/06, while the youth exchange from 20/07 to 28/07; both actions will take place in San Leonardo di Cutro, in the province of Crotone.4 participants will be involved in the APV: 1 leader and a young participant from Romania, 1 leader and 1 participant from Italy. 25 people will live the youth exchange experience: a group of 12 Romanian participants, 10 youngsters and 2 leaders, and 13 Italians, precisely 10 youngsters, 2 leaders and a tutor for the Italian participant who needs individual support. Participants will be between 14 and 24 years old, while the leaders will be older than 25 years old.The building that will host the APV and the exchange is a revalued property, confiscated to the 'Ndrangheta. It has become a “C.E.L.A” - Education Centre for Legality and Environment, as well as a symbol of the fight against organized crime in the province of Crotone: it is still victim of theft and vandalism. Next to the Centre, a Memorial Park has born in 2012, thanks to the idea of local volunteers, who planted 25 trees and installed panels with pictures and stories of many 'Ndrangheta victims next to each tree. The main objective of this project is to raise awareness and actively involve a cross-cultural group of teenagers and young people to the values of volunteering as an essential instrument of active citizenship and participation in the democratic life of their country and of European society.Specific objectives :- To provide the young participants an international mobility opportunity, that allows them to acquire useful skills for personal development and employability, which they hardly can train through formal education. This is particularly important for participants with fewer opportunities, such as young people belonging to the Roma community of Panciu, Romania.- To create an intercultural group, symbol of a socially united, fair, tolerant Europe.- To learn the importance of legality and defense of the environment, through the direct knowledge of the lands confiscated from the local criminal organizations.A first meeting with the volunteering world, acquired together with peers from different background, is a vehicle for an increased awareness about the meaning of community, of the collective effort for the common good. It allows participants to train key-skills for personal and professional development, such as empathy, relationship making, critical thinking, problem solving. All the activities proposed during the exchange will be based on methodologies of non-formal education: motion games, ice-breaking activities, guided discussions, workshops and interactive simulations, role plays, field training. This methodology will be useful to engage participants both rationally and emotionally: this will encourage greater participation, but also ensure that the youngsters take ownership of the issues, personally living the topics of this project. These proposals will be the vehicle for the training of key competences for the participants' growth, which will be certified through Youthpass: the development of social and civic competences, spirit of initiative and creativity, greater openness to the richness of diversity and inclination for active participation in the society life.To welcome an international group of young people will mean a positive impact on the local community, in terms of openness and knowledge of mobility opportunities that are also dedicated to local youngsters. This experience will represent also a living witness of a unite, connected and fair Europe. This project contributes to consolidate the good collaboration practices between Italian and Romanian institutions involved in the promotion of volunteering and intercultural exchange, fitting into the series of existing virtuous experiences, even among the partner associations, IBO Italy and Lumea lui Pinocchio .
