ABsorption chillers for optimised and flexible TRI-GENeration (ABC-OF-TRI-GEN)
Start date: Nov 1, 2007, End date: Oct 31, 2010 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project will develop and demonstrate an innovative Tri-Generation technology as well as its ecological benefit and economic competitiveness. According to the state of the art in Tri-Generation Systems single-stage absorption chillers are coupled to co-generation engines through a hot water loop at temperatures below 100°C. A substantial increase in system performance can be achieved by incorporating a double-effect and a single-effect absorption cycle.By that means the heat content of the high temperature flue gas can be converted directly into useful cold without undergoing a degradation when transferred to a low temperature heating loop before entering the absorption chiller. For the coupling of the co-generation unit with the absorption chiller an innovative coupling scheme will be implemented, based on a refined double-stage absorption cycle. This allows for increased utilisation of the fuel driving the co-generation engine for the production of power, heat and cooling.
