The EU 2020 strategy sets out a target to reach a 75% employment rate for 20 to 64 year olds across Europe, however the stark reality is that Europe currently faces a youth unemployment crisis with 5.5 million young people unemployed in the EU-28 area in August 2013; this figure equates to 1 in 5 people under 25 who are willing to work but are unable to find employment.Furthermore the EU2020 strategy sets out a target that 6% of 18-34 year-olds with an initial vocational qualification should have spent some time studying or training abroad. It is based upon this target that the YMCA Derbyshire wish to ensure that all of their learners enrolled in the catering and hospitality programme have the opportunity to partake in a traineeship abroad. All learners who enroll on vocational programmes at YMCA Derbyshire have specific needs and are faced with various obstacles with their learning and future employment; this is worsened by the situation that many of these learners have never travelled outside of the United Kingdom, or in some cases outside the boundaries of the county of Derbyshire. It is the role of YMCA Derbyshire to ensure these individuals are given the right learning opportunities and support to foster their personal and professional development empowering them to create equal opportunities for themselves. In order for young people to have a fair chance for sustainable and enriching employment they need to take the perspective of a European labour market, not just a Derbyshire wide labour market. As such it is the aim of YMCA Derbyshire to prepare their learners for a transnational labour market through vocational training and education with a strong European dimension. YMCA Derbyshire wish to carry out this project in order to offer their vocational learners an educational programme that gives them an equal opportunity within a European labour market, giving them every opportunity to seek enriching employment opportunities related to their field of vocational study. The project objectives are:- To offer learners with a fewer opportunities an intercultural learning experience related to their field of vocational education- To promote and encourage the mobility of learners with fewer opportunities - To foster an awareness of the importance of intercultural competences in different vocational fields- To empower vocational learners with fewer opportunities to seek employment further afield than their local context- To promote cooperation between VET providers who work with learners with fewer opportunities- To refeclt upon different obstacles faced by vocational students with fewer opportunities across EuropeOver 24 months, 24 learners from YMCA Derbyshire will take part in traineeships at Danish 'Production Schools' where they will work together with the Danish learners in the schools kitchen, canteen and cafe.On a European level it is expected that this project will contribute to increasing the mobility of vocationally trained individuals, promoting the equilibrium of supply and demand for employment across Europe, thus improving the equality of prosperity and health of European Citizens and the European Union.
