Based on a multidisciplinary and cross-boundary approach, the SCARFACE project aims at using the knowledge on mutilated soldiers injured during the Great War to disseminate this memory to a large public, especially young people, and promote integration and understanding of the disability linked to disfigurement.

In the First World War, the frontline ran through West-Flanders (from Nieuwpoort to the French-Belgian border) and Nord-Pas de Calais (from Armentieres southward to Arras), and then further up to the Sommeand Aisne departments.
