Dr. Stella Hadjistassou (female) has served as the Acting Director of the Language Center at UCY for two years where she also held a visiting lecturer position. While serving as the Acting Director of the Language Center, Stella has promoted multiple language policies to promote multilingualism and multiculturalism within UCY. She also oversaw all activities related to the effective implementation of the CEFR in all curricula across all languages offered by the Language Center. Stella has earned a Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition and Linguistics from Arizona State University. She also holds a MTESOL degree and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. She specializes in Computer-enhanced language learning, Applied Linguistics, Social Virtualities, Augmented Reality, ecological perspectives in language teaching and learning in multimodal learning environments, and Cultural-historical Activity Theory (CHAT).
Stella has taught multiple conventional, hybrid, and online courses in the United States and in Cyprus in second language teaching and technology, teaching methodology, research methods, sociolinguistics, and English as a second language. She has also published in the areas of computer-enhanced language learning. She has collaborated in various nationally and European funded projects related to XR, cultural heritage, STEM-subjects, Mobile-based learning, teacher education. At the current stage, she is a research fellow at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence. Further, she is engaged in several studies on the use of XR technologies for teacher training and learning.
