Municipality of Gradac
Looking for Partnership Looking for Extra EU Funds
The Municipality of Gradac can be briefly presented as the southernmost municipality of the Split-Dalmatia County, and one of the largest territorial units of the Makarska littoral. With its 2,401 inhabitants, it represents an economically and politically stable entity, made up of five settlements: Gradac (as the municipal center and largest town), Brist, Podaca, Zaostrog and Drvenik. Strongly focused on tourism, the municipality of Gradac symbolizes a kind of eastern gate of central Dalmatia, i.e. the exit to the mouth of the Neretva and beyond, to the Dubrovnik coast and the city of Dubrovnik itself. It covers 73 square kilometers, roughly the same size as the city of Split, and 12 kilometers long beaches with crystal clear sea and pine trees alongside it. It is an area with a rich history - signs of Illyrian settlements in this area are still visible today, and we note significant artifacts from late antiquity. Riviera Gradac is currently the fourth largest destination in our county, with over 900,000 overnight stays in the season. To preserve and enhance the tourist season and profit, but also do good to nature and seaside, we find it extremely important to make serious steps towards climate change and all its impacts which are slowly but surely leaving prints in all aspects of our lives and our precious Adriatic coast is no exception.
