A European cooperation project towards the suffering of youth (16- 18 years) from eating disorders.
The decline in the mental resilience and health of young people in our Western society has been a cause of concern for some time: the number of youngsters (up till 19 years old) with psychological complaints has been increasing for years. This increase has accelerated due to the Corona pandemic. At the root of many psychological problems among youngsters is a loss of connection with the self, which causes a kink in the development of identity. While such a kink develops, life just rumbles on, leaving more and more youngsters in doubt and social isolation. Out of the ordinary life, OffSide.
It is precisely at this position that the multi- headed monster of eating problems can develop. Slow or lightning fast, relatively light to very serious and complex.Patients with a (long-term) eating disorder have a reduced life expectancy, a significantly increased risk of physical and psychiatric co-morbidity, chronic disorders and (partial) disability. They are referred to overburdened youth care and mental health care, where they have to deal with long waiting times and a one- sided therapy offer. After first getting stuck in their own lives, they now also get stuck in an overloaded treatment and support system, which has no adequate supply at all for the immense problems we face nowadays.
Off Side exchanges experiences in dealing with eating problems in a European partnership - exchange with a maximum of 5 partner countries. An exchange of local facts, figures and treatment methods. The role of cultural characteristics in the development of this multi-headed monster. The local organization of health care regarding this immense problem. A look at the relationship of relatives with the patient.
We are looking for a maximum of four other partners who want to participate in 21-month project, starting January 2024. Of course, we hope for passion and commitment to carry this project forward! Deadline of submitting the application is 4 october 2023. Please do react before the 13th of september!
The Netherlands (Praktijkhuis Inspiration, a peer support initiative) will be the coordinating partner, together with local involved partners.
Now this project has been closed for partnersearch: we found now really interested partners and hope you will keep us in mind for other cooperation possibilities.
Warm regards,
Margreet
