The youth unemployment crisis has had a profound effect on young people and the societies in which they live. Youth unemployment is a global issue that threatens to undermine the very fabric of our society. As a result of growing youth unemployment, young people are experiencing increased levels of poverty and social exclusion, and there is a widening economic gap between older and younger generations.
The applicant is Youth association ‘Youth in the EU’ from Šibenik, Croatia. It believes that young people are backbone of sustainable development and it has the knowledge and experience in the field of youth work and in promotion of the social entrepreneurship.
The specific approach of the project 'Together we are stronger' is to increase the sense of entrepreneurship among young unemployed people from different cultures and nationalities and offer them the chance to acquire skills and competences to realise their own potential and integrate successfully into society.
Target group of our project are 18 unemployed young people aged 18-30 years from small towns from EU countries with highest unemployment rate among youth (6 young people from Croatia and the 4 from partner countries, Greece, Spain and Italy ), of which a minimum 12 is long-term unemployed and minimum 50% are female.
The specific objective(s) of the project is to improve practical knowledge and skills of young unemployed people in the field of social entrepreneurship in order to increase their (self)employability, promote synergies, the mobility of young people, international cooperation and to increase the level of awareness of available EU funds.
The worshops will employ the methods of non-formal teaching, encouraging the exchange of experience from different countries to alert the participants to opportunities they had not been aware of, along with theoretical and practical exercises, and simulations of entrepreneurship challenges. They will learn about business planning, marketing and visibility, and business analysis, financing and funding. The project will give them the space, resources and links to test their ideas, practise new skills, obtain feedback and to implement their projects in cooperation with others. The project will also provide them a platform for support, networking, cooperation and sharing of ideas. Through working together in multicultural groups they will learn about the value of mutual support. They will discovered ways to progress their projects and how to find the right match between their own ideas and the frameworks available for support — such as the options in the Youth in Action programme, social entrepreneurship. They will learn that being proactive, independent and innovative were assets in their personal and social life, as much as at work. Through disscusions about youth unemployment and their own national or local cultures they will perceive more clearly how becoming an entrepreneur can be one of the solutions for youth unemployment.
We will use informal and unformal methods of learing, such us group work, participatory and cooperative learning, exchange of experiences in multicultural enviroment, case studies, brainstorming. They will actively participate in discussions. The workshops will be held in different settings (classrooms, nature, visits to NGO-s, national park Krka...).
The project will have a broad impact on participants, partner organizations, applicant organization, local community and wider society.
Expected results for the young unemployed are: acquistion of new or upgrading current competences, a greater sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, greater ability (only) employability empowerment through skills and knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship, strengthening self-confidence, greater intercultural awareness
Expected results for the association 'Youth in the EU' and partner organizations: the realization of new and enhanced cooperation with international partners, empowerment through experience in the implementation of EU projects, the inclusion of good practice and new methods in daily activities, collaboration with organizations active in various social and educational areas
The community will also benefit from the project - greater public awareness of EU programs, especially 'Youth in Action', better recognizition of Youthpass certficate, more young people will actively participate in society.
The project has a potential for long term benefits. The project will create platform for collaboration and provide guidance to participants in further realization their business plans. All materials from workshops as well as all information about project will be available online. Participants will transfer their knowledge among their peers in their communities. Project can be replicated in other regions and disseminate information about social entrepreneurship.
