„Internships abroad as a way to succeess” is a project which will be run from 01.06.2015 to 01.06.2017 in a partnership between Zespół Szkół Nr 2, a secondary school in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Poland and a German company – Vitalis Betreuungsgesellchaft für Modellprojekte mbH. There will be 40 students from ZS Nr 2 who will take part in the project. 20 students studying to be construction technicians and 20 students of Information technology will undergo a training in Schkeuditz, Germany. The first group of students (10 IT students and 10 construction students) will be in Schkeuditz form 28.05.2016 to 12.06.2016 and the second one (10 IT students and 10 construction students) form 15.10.2016 to 30.10.2016.
The project aims mainly at supporting international students’ mobility and enhancing their vocational competences as well as key competences such as communication in the mother and foreign languages, social and civic competence and cultural awareness.
It is not a coincident that Germany has been chosen to be a place of vocational training. Our western neighbour is one of the biggest world economies, with advanced technologies and infrastructure. It faces, however, demographic problems and skilled labour shortage. Thus, many Polish IT and construction technicians could find employment in German companies and in this way reach their full vocational potential. What is more, apprenticeship in German companies is of considerable importance among Polish employers and universities.
On account of high unemployment rate in Ostrowiec district (19,1%) and Opatów district (20,8%), there is a need to educate future graduates who will be competitive in the local labour market. Participation in this project will boost students’ chances to find work in the future and decrease the risk of social exclusion because of the lack of employment.
Following the Recruitment Criteria, a group of 40 students, who gain knowledge in the field of IT and building construction, will be chosen. They will go to Schkeuditz to take part in a fortnight internship which will take place in a historic buildings complex and computer studies in Gut Wehlitz.
Mobilities will be proceeded by cultural, pedagogical and language preparation, which will enable participants to adapt easily in the new environment.
During the internship, construction students will consolidate skills connected with the worksite preparation; setting up scaffolding, expand their knowledge of building materials, performing measurements, masonry, plastering, renovation, demolition and floors.
At the same time, Information Technology students will consolidate and broaden knowledge of local computer networks, creating and installing logical and physical networks, networks administration, creating web pages using HTML. Moreover, the participants will get to know German culture, history and customs, especially during planned trips to Leipzig, Drezden and Berlin.
On the last day of the internship, students will be given ECVET documents and Europass-Mobility certificates, which will facilitate the recognition of acquired skills and qualification in every European country. The knowledge and vocational competences gained by the participants will ease their transition from the stage of studying to employment in the future.
Vitalis' workers accompanied by Polish teachers will ensure that the mobility proceeds properly. They will monitor the implementation of the set programme, support the participants, help them to solve problems and document the effects of internship. The guardians from Poland will be in constant touch with the project coordinator, which will lead to the efficient project quality management.
Thanks to the participation in the project, the students will get to know the latest technologies and learn how to prepare a workstation and implement work safety regulations according to German standards. They will verify their vocational knowledge as well as language skills in the area of technical terminology in German. Their vocational competence will rise, which will make they perform better on vocational exams.
Staying abroad, the students will explore German culture, history and traditions, as well as improve their communication and social skills. Their self-confidence and a sense of being a citizen of Europe will be consolidated.
After coming back from Germany, the participants will share gained knowledge and experience by disseminating the results of the project. Participation in the project will result in the rise of school's prestige in the local area. During the cooperation with Vitalis, the teachers will acquire knowledge about conducting projects financed by the European Union which will lead to better quality projects prepared with Vitalis as well as other foreign partners in the future.
