PROJECT
FINISHED
Project “Stop Heat Loss: Thermography in Use” followed up the international school activities supporting technical education, especially building fields, leading to the promotion of environmental and economic students´ thinking.
The project originated in the context of the cooperation of our school and professional partners and the introduction of new knowledge into the school educational system. Thermography and its applications in civil engineering is an important feature of the modernization of school curriculum in the area of the diagnosis of constructions, which is necessary and usable especially in the study fields of civil engineering, plumbers, electricians - high voltage current.
The knowledge gained during the implementation of the project, particularly a different approach of the techniques in the south and north of Europe is very instructive for the school.
The general objective of the project was to get new competences, especially linguistic and professional by the implementation of new work procedures - above-standard language preparation, by experimental thermographic activites and by linking theory with practice, mastering craft skills with the emphasis on their quality and the interconnection followed by diagnosing possible building malfunctions and adopting knowledge and experience in the area of professional education and concurrently usage of this adopted knowledge during the practical training and actual practice.
The operational objective of the applicant was especially to help to increase the interest in technical education - in the field of plumbing and technical amenities of buildings, or its applications in civil engineering branch. The experts of technical amenities field are highly demanded but unfortunately there are not many students interested in it. The above-standard educational programme allowed to create an interest in the field, maintain the branch as a part of our school curriculum, and prepare the specialists who guarantee the realisation of energetically and economically friendly constructions in the EU.
The participants of the project were the third-grade students of civil engineering and students of the second and third year of plumber branch.
The project enabled to 25 students to spend two-week professional study visits in our partner organisations in Finland, France, Lithuania and Spain.
Finishing language, cultural and professional preparatory courses our students worked abroad hard - they deepened their plumbing skills - especially cutting, bending, joining and pipe instalation. They used modern hand and power tools, they got to know new materials, procedures and standards used during the construction and the assembly of the systems of the technical amenities of the buildings.
Following the aquiring these craft skills our student also met the research task, in which they improved the knowledge of the methods of thermodiagnosis. They verified the influence of the quality of craftsmanship of joints and insulation on the overall quality of the construction concerning energy savings. They worked with a thermocamera. They measured, assessed and evaluated created thermographs and consequently they created a list of possible proposals of energy savings in real buildings at our foreign partners. The participants of the mobilities also intensified mainly communicative skills, the ability of adaptation in new environment and craft skills realised as a part of a team.
We expect that the realisation of the project will increase the interest in the issues of technical amenities branch thanks to the implementation of modern and attractive methods of thermodiagnosis, creating positive attitude towards the protection of our environment from the perspective of energy savings and the increase in the quality of our graduates by acquiring modern technologies demanded by the labour market. Our other students will be able to create a complete view of the issue of heat loss in constructions thanks to the following dissemination.
The long-term benefit of the project activities will be supported by the implementation of gained experience into the school curriculum.
