Youth worker Cork YMCA
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project is based in the Youth Information Centre of Cork YMCA. The YIC aims to actively promote young people’s development through the provision of a comprehensive and user friendly information and advisory service responsive to their needs providing them with the information and skills necessary to make informed life choices. The aim of this project is to develop and enhance the work and life skills of the individual and to add value to some of the youth work carried out in the YMCA by offering a European dimension through informal contact and structured sessions. We will agree with the volunteer on a mutually beneficially project which they can pursue during their time which would relate back to their home country. The volunteer will be part of the Health team delivering Heart n Soul to in-house groups and externally. The volunteer will be involved in formal group work sessions, non formal youth café settings and in formal information giving presentations. The impact on the individual is culture awareness, teamwork experience, skills enhancement and language improvement. The impact on the organisation will be of huge benefit where participants in our programmes here can benefit from insights and opinions from the a volunteer from another European country. Attitudes, cognitive functioning, and beliefs tend to vary with demographic variables. Therefore this type of diversity can lead to the presence of different perspectives or views on the performance of tasks/youth work activities. The organisation will also be renewing a relationship with the German YMCA which has not been active for many years.
