"Youth Picture" (YP) is a Youth Exchange delivered through Non Formal Education dealing with the use of photography as a tool for promoting youth awareness and active participation on youth-related socially relevant issues. The YE will as well foster soft skills (flexibility, lateral thinking, team-work, open mindedness and tolerance) as a tool of youth empowerment. The YE will be held in Sassari, Sardinia, Italy. Duration: 7 full working days activities, 21-28 October 2016 (1 travel day). The countries involved in the project are Italy and Sweden - in total 44 participants among which 11 disadvantaged NEETs. The venue of the YE will be the Youth Center managed by MVNGO in Sassari. The Youth Center is located in Sassari’s historic center, an area characterized by economic underdevelopment and the presence of an high number of NEET youngsters (who are the main targets of Youth Center’s activities). The area is as well affected by substantial decay and discomfort, seldom escalating in episodes of violence and vandalism (MVNGO Youth Center has recently suffered a major act of vandalism). The partner Kultur och Fridit is as well the manager entity of a Youth Center in the town of Lund and faces similar challenges in its daily activities, particularly concerning the presence of an high number of NEETs in the area of the Youth Center. The present project represents a jointly elaborated NFE based approach to empower youngsters, and in particular disadvantaged NEETs, to be active drivers of development of degraded urban areas through the use of Photography as a tool for expressing their feelings, ideas as well as narrating their local realities. The use of Photography is foreseen because images can be stronger than words. Pictures are often used to portray emotions in communication in media, newspaper, internet etc. This YE is dedicated to youngsters (with a particular focus on disadvantaged NEETs) interested in gathering the attention of a wider public on the existential issues affecting their category and on the social issues of their local community.Target group: youngsters aged 18-25 among which disadvantaged youth NEETs. They should preferably have an interest in photography.Learning objectives of the youth exchange are: - To provide youngsters, also belonging to disadvantaged NEET categories, with basic knowledge of Photography and enhance their awareness about the role of Photography as a tool of visibility and self-expression; - To provide youngsters with a basic knowledge of Non Formal Education and with basic NFE tools to disseminate acquired knowledge in local realities; -To develop the potential of young people as drivers of comprehensive local development in degraded urban areas;- To promote employability and integration of NEET youths through NFE, photographic expression and soft slkills;- To raise youth awareness about the values and opportunities provided by European mobility projects;-To develop basic digital skills in involved youngsters using a creative approach towards the art of photo by attending dynamic workshops and practical work in photography. The working method of "Youth Picture" will start from a wider point of view, macro areas such as values, self-expression through photography, to the specific activities such as tools and methods to be easily used by youngsters interested in undertaking active action for the civil society (bottom-up process).Photography has an educational dimension and plays a social, cultural and communicative role.Actually, photography is useful for breaking stereotypes, promoting mutual understanding and empathy, facilitating the process of social inclusion. Therefore its values are fundamental in third sector’s working processes, where it can be used in order to prevent the sense of intolerance, social exclusion and marginalization. The YE will follow the NFE approach: a combination of different creative and interactive methods and outdoor activities will be used by organizers. Some examples of working methods: dynamic workshop, Compass/Salto sessions, individual/group activities, group exercises, work on examples in a small group, simulations. The final output of the YE will be a public Photographic Exhibition displaying participants’ artistic Photos related to everyday life in the area of the Youth Center.Organisers will establish a theoretical framework and common reference points for learning and communication in this course, and the course methodology foresees direct involvement of the organisations which already work on the topic and that will be present at the YE. We asked 2 international facilitators (Bengt Fransson and Claudia Baltolu) with huge experience in the youth field and non-formal education to be experts in our project.
