PROJECT
FINISHED
The aim of this project is to bring together youth from different backgrounds, differnt cultures, and perspectives and to give them an experiential approach to "becoming global citizens" and to lead others by their own example. The participants of Youth Mela: Becoming Global Citizens are youth and youth leaders from Slovenia, Spain, Belgium, England and Austria of ages between 18 and 30 years old, 7 people from each participating country. They are university and college students, as well as youth workers and young professionals looking for making new friends and contacts in these countries across Europe, seeking an educational experience which caters for their moral, spiritual and emotional wellbeing, and an enjoyable experience. The transnational meeting will take place in Leicester, UK, from arrival date of 31st of August till the departure date of 6th of September 2016. It will last for 5 days, during which young people will be together in discussions, brainstormings, seminars, workshops of their own design, cultural, sport and humanitarian events. The emphasis will be creating unity through diversity. We plan to have a day for humanitarian help and a day with a cultural event for the local community. The project gives the participants an opportunity:- To learn from each other, to be cooperative in the multi cultural and multi lingual society that is Europe today- To train their communication skills, show their responsibility, learn about efficient leadership and improve their creativity- To learn how to encourage and help their peers, and to understand how can it be beneficial for themselves.- To learn more about healthy wellbeing for the mind and body - through yoga, meditation, recreational exercise, conscious choice of food they eat.- To help non formal youth groups from Austria and Spain to increase their organisational capacity and inspire them for new youth activities- To encourage youth to participate in European Voluntary Service- To prepare new projects in Erasmus Plus together and strenghten the partnership and friendship among organisations and individual participantsThrough different activities which will need constant cooperation we hope the participants will learn how to work with one another to achieve the desired common goals without necessarily having to compromise their own ideals. Unity in diversity. We would also like to share with them and make them share further the opportunities that Youthpass, Europass CV and Erasmus+ program is giving to them. Especially we would like to share the knowledge about EVS, as we believe it can help the young people a lot to learn and to find their vocation. We see young people as the ones, who will be building our future. Especially lately there were many debates about the diversity, raised by the refugees crisis, for example. In Europe now exist side by side many different cultures and it would be great to use it for good, to be able to have a productive dialog with the newcomers, rather than build the walls, to use the benefits of multiculturalism and to learn from each other. At all levels (local, regional, national, European and international) we would like to increase youth consciousness, pro-activity, to increase their abilities to communicate, work in team and teach them some life lessons of transforming problems into a set of tasks that can be completed!
