Youth for Heritage!
Start date: Jan 18, 2016, End date: Jan 17, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Nowadays there is a real problem existing in the historical cities of Europe and EECA countries. The old buildings that represent the cultural heritage and reflect on the history of the city and its citizens, are being demolished or rebuilt and transformed into modern hotels and office buildings, leaving both the citizens and visitors without a connection to the past and their roots. We, young Europeans, feel that this undermines the cultural diversity of Europe and therefore action should be taken to value and safeguard our heritage. The Youth Exchange ‘Youth for Heritage!’ aimed to support the involvement of young people in the sustainable development of urban communities and to promote the understanding of the importance of protection of cultural heritage both on national and international level. The project consisted of 2 parts - Advanced Planning visit for youth leaders hold 11-14 March 2016 in Chisinau, Moldova and youth exchange itself. The youth exchange took place in between 15-22 of May 2016 in Chisinau, Moldova. An international group of 40 young people including group leaders from 4 EU countries – Belgium, Greece, Portugal, Slovakia and from 4 EECA countries – Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine took part in this international youth exchange. The total duration of the project was 8 days, including the arrival and departure days. The project aimed to raise the awareness of the European community and local authorities on the cultural heritage of the city of Chisinau, namely its architectural monuments, built during the 18-20th centuries. The activities planned by the organizers encouraged the participants to demonstrate their creativity towards the realization of the common goals and therefore contributed to the personal development of competencies.
