Young Journalists Journey
Young Journalists Journey
Start date: Aug 1, 2014,
End date: Dec 31, 2014
PROJECT
FINISHED
“Young Journalists Journey” is a new innovative KA1 Erasmus+ Youth exchange for youth workers, volunteers and youth leaders.
It will bring together 40 participants from 8 different countries to work together on the main topics: Backpack journalism and non-formal education in relation to the problem of youth unemployment.
The youth exchange name relates perfectly to the topic of change, journey and transformation and this topic and theme will also create a red thread of the program of our youth exchange.
The idea of the exchange was driven by the fact that young people with fewer opportunities (and especially those who left their studies at an early age) often lack the necessary competences and experiences in order to enter or stay in the labor market. At the same time, non-formal learning which takes place within the framework of youth projects (in the Erasmus+ programme and beyond) provides very valuable learning experiences for young people, e.g. communication and the ability to work in teams, developing the habit of staying involved in an activity on a regular basis or at least for some time, taking responsibility etc.). The project wants to bring the participants on a journey of non-experienced journalists and provide them tools and inputs which might help them to be more aware of themselves, their skills and their competences.
The project will take place in Vatra Dornei from the 3rd until the 10th of November 2014 and will involve 40 participants and 5 staff members from 8 different countries (Italy, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Romania, Netherland, Poland, France, Croatia).
During eight days, the participants will experience through non-formal education methods and discussion with bloggers and journalist how to improve their storytelling, photo, video skills and to find the essence of a subject, place or a character through interviews, reportages, photo-reportages, videos and blogging posts.
With these skills developed, the participants will be able to start their own blogs or write for the NGOs magazine or even work for a media company.
The main goal is to empower the youngsters to explore an area and their inhabitants through backpack journalism technique, how to choose the subject, what angles of the story are better in order to catch the attention of the readers and visitors of their owned online channels. The participants will be engaged in this journey with several methods such as self discovering (storytelling), integrative methods (setting strategies for the articles, team-building exercises), learning through individual experiences (discussing with journalists, taking interviews and interacting with the citizens), creativity methods (blogging web-design, magazines and brochures, but also photo-reportage)
