YOG 2012 EVS
Start date: Aug 1, 2011,
The Youth Winter Olympic Games is the one of the biggest sport events in the world. 1,058 young athletes aged between 14 and 18 fpm over Ş0 different nations will compete in all Olympic disciplines. The venues of the the games are Innsbruck, Seefeld and Kühtai. This international widely acknowleged and important sport event is attracting a lót of people, both behind the scenes on the professional level and right on the spot, where people want to celebrate the sport, their team, their passion for winter sport. As tickets, accomodation and close access will become more and more 'difficult at such a'popular event, the hosting of EVS volunteers at this events give young people the unique possiblity to get a bit of both. They will be intergrated in the organising activités of this event (Youth media lab, Youth world 'mile, Youth sustainability project, Youth arts project, youth competence project, Youth festival 2012) and be able to learn from behind the scenes and contribute with their movation and interests, but will also be very close up to the games themselves - as guests in their freetime and as volunteers right on the spot. All in all, this is an international event - that will transport Olympic and european values like fairplay, intercultural understanding, tolerance, anti-racism, human rights, inclusion, gender equality and many more. The volunteers will be encouraged to learn about these through the volunteering, but also be embassadors for these values, as they represent Europe at this event. Most of our partners work with young people with less opportunities on various levels and/or networks. For us, it is normal to include them wherever it is possible and wherever their needs can be met. We know about the challenges, we know that events like this are sometimes not the perfect ground to involve such young people - but knowing this makes us more aware. And we have set our will to invite 5 volunteers from fewer opportunities backgrounds - and have chosen to work with Sending Organisations who can insure this.Overall - this is an event where world comes together and celebrates sports together -perfect match! This group EVS will offer activities for 30 volunteers on the mentioned cultural and educational projects in the city of Innsbruck. They will be sent by 15 sending organisations from programme and neighbouring countries and hosted for the period of 2 months. There is one overall coordinator - Infoeck-Jugendinfo Tirol which has long term experience in sending/hosting/coordinating EVS. This project will be conducted in cooperation with the Culture and Education department of the organizing commitee as host organization, Infoeck as coordinator, local government and different youth organizations are supporting this project in organizing accommodation, free time of the volunteers and mentoring of volunteers, especially those with fewer opportunities. The volunteers will be supported in their personal development and learning through trainings, mentoring. peer learning and professional staff. All training will be professionally planned and evaluated, methods of non formal learning learning being the main approach in this project will be non formal. All learning and outcomes for the volunteers will be supported by recorded in individual Youth Passes, which will be used as learning tool and will be handed over as a certificate of achievement
