PROJECT
FINISHED
Our project is called YES! YOUNG EUROPEAN SCRIBES. EUROPEAN SCHOOL MAGAZINE.
We’ll work on the improvement of the linguistic competences by the elaboration of a commom school magazine in which our students will become journalists and where each partner school will inform the rest about important news of their region (school, sports, culture…).
Our main objectives are:
- to mprove written skills, comprehension and production of texts.
- to create a common space where teachers and students can express themselves in a written way.
- to investigate close social environment as well other countries' and share learnings and conclusions.
- to develop a critical thinking in our students.
- to apply new technologies in our daily practice.
- to promote values such as plurality and tolerance.
- to approach Europe to our schools.
- to support the feeling of being part of the European community.
- to improve both students and teachers' communicative competence in English as well as approach the knowledge of other European languages.
The participation of teachers and students in the magazine is open although the target group are 10 to 11 years old students, Primary 5th.
We plan to have activities in every school coordinated by Project Coordinators who will have fluent communication in order to ensure the success of the project.
Yes! Magazine will have different sections in order to expose our students to a variety of written texts.
Our idea is that this Project involves as well cross curricular aspects, ranging from the implememtation of IT in the teaching and learning process to the respect and interest towards other children’s realities.
So we’ll be developing writing skills (when designing the text of the new), reading comprehension skills (when reading other schools news. Here we could prepare activities to extraxct information, vocabulary acquisition…), speaking skills (when interviewing someone. We’ve also thought on preparing like a news TV programme, where our students become reporters. Videos could be uploaded on the twinspace) as well as being exposed to a variety of text and linguistic styles. We’ll publish the magazine in English which will be our common communication language although we can prepare the texts in our mother tongues and then translate them. We will create a special corner in the magazine where we write in our country languages.
Art and creativity will be also an important aspect of our Project as students will have to ilustrate their news, take pictures, record videos…
We will edit virtual issues of our magazine to be displayed at every school blog or web page and we’ll edit the them on paper for all the members of the educative community of every country.
We’ll try to give local impact to our Project by involving on it the local newspaper, Town Hall, Mothers and Fathers Societies of every school and other communities.
During the implememtation of the Project we’ll organize teachers meetings with the rest of the partner schools so we can share ideas and teaching resources as well as trips with the students to enrich even more their learning experience.
We believe that this project could be highly motivating both for students and teachers. Thanks to this motivation we expect to have meaningful learning and an improvement of the linguistic skills.
