World Climate Conference 3 - «Better Climate Information for a Better Future» (WCC 3)
Start date: Jan 1, 2009, End date: Nov 30, 2009 PROJECT  FINISHED

The World Climate Conference-3 (WCC-3) is aimed at initiating a global action to address the management of climate related risks and opportunities in the interest of supporting sustainable socio-economic development, especially in developing and least developed countries, in the face of current climate variability and predicted climate change. The theme of WCC-3 is “Climate prediction and information for decision-making”, focusing on the application of climate information and predictions to societal problems enabling adaptation to the current climate conditions and predicted future changes in areas such as agriculture, forestry, water, health, infrastructure, urban cities and sustainable development. The involvement and participation of scientists from developing and least developed countries, which are often affected by climate related disasters and endowed with unique opportunities for development, shall help in developing appropriate climate services that would support the various sectors of the economy to spur growth. The WCC 3 is intended to establish an international framework that will enhance the provision, exchange, and application of climate prediction and information services for a wide range of socio-economic sectors and in doing so make a significant contribution to the UNFCCC COP15. This includes improving the ability of societies to reduce and manage climate related risks, through the provision of skilful climate prediction and information services as well as the integration of these services into decision-making as a means of enhancing the resilience of governments, society, and institutions to adapt to current and changing climate conditions. WCC-3 will also further the scientific basis to explain and predict changes in the global climate in the context of both natural and anthropogenic forcing with an emphasis on contributing, from the science perspective, to the development of policy options for appropriate responses to global chang
