Women's Power in the Nordic Countries

The aims of the project Women's Power in the Nordic Countries are to promote young women's influence and involvement in the development of society, through active citizenship and greater participation in democratic decision-making, and to increase decision-makers' engagement with issues concerning young people, integration and equality. Associations and decision-makers from Copenhagen in Denmark, Åbo in Finland, Reykjavik in Iceland, and Karlstad and Malmö in Sweden are taking part in the project. 57 persons between the ages of 18 and 30 will be involved, the majority of whom come from foreign backgrounds. The aim is that at least half of the young participants will become active members in an association or a trade union or political organisation.The target group is also decision-makers who as a result of the project will take forward within their own organisations work around diversity, integration, equality and young people's involvement.The project will run from the beginning of January 2009 to the end of June 2010. During this time, the following activities will be carried out:· Recruitment of participants.· Thematic meetings, with structured discussions forming the basis for informal learning. · Implementation of a mentoring programme for mentees and mentors. · Three conferences in the Nordic region. In parallel with the individual programmes run by the organisations involved, a joint network will also be developed during the project period.
