For 2015-18, faculty, academic staff and recent PhDs affiliated with European Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will carry out a European Commission Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Action Module, whose goals include: 1) creation of first-teaching experiences for recent PhDs in Political Science whose research will be used to deepen knowledge of the European Union and EU Studies to non-traditional audiences (undergraduates in International Studies, professionals and graduate students in Law and MBA programs, etc.); 2) fostering the publication of innovative digital pedagogical tools and approaches to EU teaching in new fora with international reach (e.g., Jean Monnet fora); 3) fostering the introduction of EU angles into State of Wisconsin teacher certification programs and short courses for professional students and post-graduates; 4) delivery of short, intensive summer courses on particular angles of EU/US comparative research (e.g., food safety, comparative legislation, REACH); and 5) enhancement of community and international resources which foster expansive in-depth coverage of transatlantic matters with global reach, including the EU’s Horizon 2020 and EU Partnership Instrument collaborators in Japan and Mexico. We will create a Jean Monnet Module to equip students and young professionals with knowledge of EU subjects for their academic and professional lives and enhance their civic skills through the innovative classroom model of “blended learning,” a campus-wide Education Innovation initiative in teaching and research.
