Project summaryThe program „Exploring the Spanish economy“ has been created in order to motivate young people that are interested in a work history in economy to broaden their view and to acquire knowledge about other countries.. It is important these days to widen ones horizon in a world that becomes more and more international. The project will serve the participants for intensifying their Spanish language skills. Very good language skills are an essential part for every job path in many areas of the economic sector. Most young people in Germany know how to speak and write English very well as it often is their first language that they were taught at school. Spanish, being the fourth most spoken language in the world becomes more and more important in todays` economy. The mastering of this language will give young people an extra chance to distinguish themselves from others and to get an extra help when applying for and succeeding in a job. In addition to that, the Spanish economy offers lots of potential for being contrasted with the German one. The economic development of both countries has been very different from each other in the past years. To question, how companies have dealt with economic crisis and what measures they have been taken to get out of them will help the young participants in deciding how they want to pursue their own career. An additional approach to analyse the Spanish economy is for example, to question whether the country - only because of the shared language – can serve as a basis for some South-American countries.Prior to departure, an emphasis will be set on the autonomy and the organizational skills of the participants. Also, a broad knowledge about the country Spain and its inhabitants will be developed as participants will, as part of their project, make extensive researches about the Spanish economy, culture and mentality in the weeks before their travel experience. In addition to that, the young people will have to organize their own cultural and leisure trips before they travel to Spain. The direct contact to the Spanish people will be of high importance during their stay. Inspection trips to companies in and around Malaga will improve the understanding for people, culture and economy. Contacts between the participants and young Spanish people will be fostered during the visit of Malaga University. The post-processing of the travel experience will play an important role within the project. Participants will work on their experiences and learnings that they have collected during their stay in Spain and will get the task to prepare a presentation for other your people within the Angell Akademie Freiburg in order to show the importance of going abroad and to motivate others to do the same.
