Wir in Europa - kulturelle Vielfalt und die Überwindung von Fremdheit
Start date: Oct 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

In a Europe with many different nations the ability to adjust to other nations´ cultures is of importance. Our project “We in Europe – cultural diversity and overcoming the otherness” will be taking place between the Gustav-von Schmoller-School and the Sancaktepe Anadolu Lisesi in Istanbul, Turkey. In this project students from Turkey, who are orientating themselves vocationally, will be working together with trainees in the tourism area of studies from Heilbronn. The participants are expected to improve their future perspectives for the job market in Europe. The project is supposed to serve the long term preservation of a partnership between the two schools and to establish an intended town twinning. It is an aim to strengthen the participants´ intercultural competence and to train the skills to work customer and coworker orientated. Participants are a school class in an apprenticeship for tourism experts from Gustav-von-Schmoller-School and the same number of students from Sancaktepe Anadolu Lisesi at the age of 15 with the same vocational alignment. 12 students will take part in the exchange of students at a time. The participants will work in English on their project via an internet platform of the Gustav-von-Schmoller-School and will establish the theoretical foundations of their project. They will compare the particular values, norms and rules of religion, family, school and workplace. Doing so they will contrast the soft skills of Turkish and German working life, for example the differences in starting a contract, in customer orientation, management style and manners. Furthermore they will take part at a training in “intercultural competence” at the Goethe Institute in Istanbul and from that create a country study. They will develop features for measuring the service quality of a hotel in Istanbul and make a valuation during their stay. During their stay in Heilbronn the participants will improve their qualification for the job market by an application training at the Akademie für Information und Management (AIM – Academy for Information and Management). They will apply these knowledge and skills directly while working in tandem with Heilbronn trainees in their travel agencies. Apart from that they will develop a guideline for an application in German, English and Turkish. Both teams will develop a marketing operation: The trainees for tourism will draw up a flyer for customer advice in a travel agency “Visit to an Islamic country – tips and rules for guests” and so they will achieve a unique selling proposition (USP) of their agency for their customers. The Turkish students will pass on their experiences to their school by a flyer “Life and Work in Europe”. The results of the project can be read on the homepages of the schools. With help of this project the participants will have improved their intercultural competences and their empathies versus the other culture. They will have developed skills to convey services suitable for recipients. Simultaneously they will be training their competences for data processing and increasing their language qualifications for the European market during the overall duration of the project. Added together they will improve their vocational competency. The achievements will be shown in referring certificates for the participants. The project will put the generally accepted training objectives in concrete terms and show how students can train cross-operational qualification. The best-practice-examples of this project will permanently be available, so that a long term model with a view to working and living in Europe will work out.
