PROJECT
FINISHED
In the latest years there have been a lot of discussion about young peoples health issues. This problem is worldwide and we all need to try and give our young people the best chances in life we can. There are of course a lot of young people who are very active and have healthy life-style, but then there is a large group that tends to stay inside, watching TV, eating junkfoods, smoking, drinking and not taking care of themselves. This project, The Winter Camp 2015 is aiming to find new innovative ways to promote young peoples active and healthy habits. All organizations involved have a lot of experience in sport education, preventing social exclusion, international youthwork, civic activity and working with young in general.
The winter camp 2015 will be implemented as youth exchange lasting 8 days on end of february 2015. During this exchange we are going to learn about the facts of healthy life style and also get to try different methods of maintaining it.
Main objectives of the project are: Promoting young people to helthier lifestyle, motivating them to be active in their societies, preventing social exclusion and enhancing their social skills, intercultural skills and braking down barriers to promote tolerance.
This project was started by the active young people of Kokemäki and Mariagerfjord. They together came up with a plan to make a winter camp for young people who wish to active but maybe have some issues that make this difficult. We are Having this Camp for 21 young people and their leaders. The young people involved have different backgrounds and issues why it has been difficult for them to maintain healthy life-style, there are geographical issues, social problems, financial issues etc. The Winter Camp 2015 project wants to give these young people a chance to find out that there are easy, fun and inexpensive ways to take care of oneself.
Methods used in this project are workshops, winter and outdoor activities and cultural exchange. One aim is to create a way for the young people to promote active lifestyle themselves, as peer-to-peer learning. Non-formal learning is the most important way here, but we are also making sure that the participants also get the information necessary to develope their habits, attitudes and ways of thinking.
So after the camp the participants are going to take the things they learned during the Camp and spread the good in their own communities. So in long-term we will hopefully have a lot more healthy, active young people in our cities.
